Memory Café at The Shores Provides a Dementia-Friendly Space.

Journey Hospice is a proud co-host of the Memory Café at United Methodist Communities The Shores, along with Bratton Law. The Memory Café is a series of creative workshops for caregivers and their aging loved ones who have dementia. It provides a dementia-friendly space for everyone to engage in and enjoy music, gentle movement, art, and more.

The first session of the spring series included a chair exercise class, and a craft project of creating mindfulness jars. Chair exercise helps to reduce anxiety and help with building or maintaining muscle strength and balance. The mindfulness jars are typically made of water and glitter and resembles a snow globe. It can provide a relaxing feeling, sense of comfort, and help the mind settle as the glitter settles on the bottom of the jar.

Each Memory Café session is designed to provide some form of mental stimulation incorporated with physical activity. It provides an opportunity for caregivers to connect with their loved one and create special memories together.
